Virtual tour round the most famous Greek museums

Would you like to take a peek through little known photography archives in Benaki Museum of Greek civilization, walk down the archaic hall of Acropolis, or study rare laboratory photos of objects in the Museum of Cycladic Art?

Thanks to the co-operation of representatives from these three famous Greek institutions with Google, ancient art is now only a click away. All you need to do is visit www.googleartproject and enjoy the unusual experience of a virtual walk round these museums.

In the Museum of Cycladic Art 159 works of art by 15 artists are on display, whereas Benaki museum features 510 works of art by 95 artists. The virtual tour  down the ancient hall in Acropolis is especially interesting. Photographs are taken with a high-resolution camera of 24 mp, and using Street View technology you really get the feeling that you are walking around and seeing the Ancient Work of art.

Acropolis, Benaki and the Museum of Cycladic art are the only museums available on Google Art so far, but according to the interest there are real chances that the number of museums  can rise in the future.

This project for virtual presentation of Greek museums by Google started in February 2011 and has managed to start a cooperation with more than a 150 museums in 40 countries around the world. The majority are from Europe but there are museums from around the globe. Besides Greek museums, Google Art features two museums fromTurkey–Pera Museum and Sakip Sabanci Museum in Istanbul, where you can see truly wonderful calligraphic art work.
