There are at least three reasons to visit the monastery of St. Panteleimon: location, history and food. It is located on the slopes of Mount Vodno and the monastery complex dominates the area. You can reach the monastery from two sides and the roads are equally good, or bad. However, when you see it you will know that you have made the right decision to visit it. It was built in the XII century and is one of the oldest monasteries in Macedonia.
There a restaurant within the monastery grounds where you can have a coffee or try some of Macedonian national dishes as you enjoy one of the most beautiful views of Skopje.
The monastery is relatively small but it is of great historical significance. Many experts believe that the fresco “Lamentation of Christ” in St. Panteleimon church heralded the Renaissance because the feelings of the characters portrayed in the fresco are clearly expressed, which was not characteristic of Byzantine art at the time.
