Polish sausage with beer

Weekend recipe from Balkon3 for hedonistic enjoyment in the football matches. Since yesterday the  football fever was spread throughout whole Europe and that is reason why the team of Balkon3 decided to offer you a nice suggestion for a specialty from Poland, one of the two countries which are hosts of the European Football Championship EURO 2012. Those are the polish beer sausages. Make this meal, get some cold beer and enjoy in the most important second best thing in the world.

– 1 pound smoked kielbasa sausage, cut into 1-inch slices

– 1 can or bottle beer

– 4 red potatoes, quartered

– 1 small head cabbage, quartered

– 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

– 200 g carrots

– ½ yellow onion, chopped

– salt and ground black pepper

Pour the beer into a large pot, and bring to a boil over medium heat. Layer the potatoes into the bottom of the pot, and sprinkle a little Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper over the potatoes. Layer the baby carrots, onion, smoked sausage, and cabbage, sprinkling every layer with a bit more of the Italian seasonings, salt, and pepper. Turn heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer until the vegetables are tender, about 45 minutes.
