It’s a goof time for Jazz in Istanbul. In the period from 3 of July to 19of July the city on the Bosphorus will pulsate in the rhythm of the jazz. Fifty concerts with 300 musicians from all around the world will be held on 20 locations.
The stars of this year’s Istanbul Jazz Festival will be one of the best pianists in the world Keith Jarrett, who will perform accompanied by Gary Peacock on bass guitar and Jack DeJohnette on drums, then the Queen of the neosoul Erykah Badu and the English poet and singer Morrissey. One of the concerts which is expected to attract most attention is “Istanbul Project” by Marcus Miller and friends, who will perform together with prominent Turkish musicians and world famous jazz players. This year, the award for lifetime achievement will be given to Neşet Ruacan, mainly for his promotion of the Turkish jazz music.
The Istanbul Jazz Festival is held for the 19th time and it is organized by the Foundation for Culture and Arts Istanbul, which organizes many cultural events in the largest city in Turkey during the whole year. Every year the Jazz festival attracts 50,000 visitors and in the past editions the audience had an opportunity to hear the legendary jazz musicians Al Di Meola, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and musical names like Eric Clapton, Sting, Nick Cave and Elvis Costello.
