Fifteen days, seven cinemas, over two hundred films… This is the personal card of the 31 edition of the Film festival in Istanbul, which will be held from 31th of March to 15th of April. The lovers of the Seventh Art will have the opportunity to enjoy the domestic and foreign films divided into 20 different sections.
The festival will be opened with the movie “The Deep Blue Sea” by the director Terence Davies with Rachel Weisz in the the leading role. Eleven foreign films are in competition for the main prize „Golden Tulip“. Most of them are adaptations of literary works or projects focused on artistic topics. We would single out the latest adaptation of „Wuthering heights“ by the British director Andrea Arnold, „Albert Nobbs“ with Glenn Close, which was nominated for Oscar for best actress for this role, “The Loneliest Planet” with Gael Garcia Bernal and „Cut“ from one of the most influential Iranian directors, Amir Naderi. In addition, 12 domestic films will be in competition of the title „Best Turkish Film of the Year“. The program of several Greek films named „What’s happening in Greece?” is also part of the schedule.
The tickets for the projections will cost 15 Turkish liras or more than six euros. The Film Festival in the city on the Bosphorus is the oldest and largest film festival in Turkey. In 2007 it had record number of visitors – 170 000. According to the organizers, the aim of the festival is to encourage the development of the domestic cinematography, but also to promote quality film projects from around the world in Turkey. (M.T.)
