Sharski Vodi Marathon – Macedonia’s gold

Adrenaline, breathtaking nature, delicious beans. Sharski Vodi (Waters of Shar Mountain) marathon was held for the seventh time on the slopes of Shar Mountain on 30th June 2013. The mountain biking marathon takes place in a unique landscape with many streams flowing by the trail, rare natural beauty ideal for recreational mountain biking or hiking. Although the weather forecast was rather unfavorable, more than 250 cyclists and nature lovers turned out at the start of the marathon at Popova Sapka ski centre.

Almost all of them managed to ride the 95 kilometers to the finish in the village of Vrutok, where you can see the source of the Vardar river. The winners of the marathon race received medals near Vrutok springs and the event was symbolically completed with a pot of traditional baked beans. The marathon has become a tradition and organizers are hoping to see cyclists from the whole region taking part in the future.
